We're on the doorstep of a fun weekend here in Iowa's capital city! Sure, it's hot, but that's July in the Midwest for ya. Stay hydrated and let's open up the weekend! Thankfully we have entertainment options both indoors and out. The Iowa Cubs are in town, with their staple Friday night fireworks. Paul McCartney is also playing tonight at Wells Fargo Arena. He hasn't visited us in a dozen years, and it is officially Paul McCartney Day here! But we didn't need the county to tell us that.
Tomorrow starts with another weekly installment of the Downtown Farmers Market and will finish with a duo of Nitefall on the River shows, country rocker Aaron Watson under the Brenton canopy and American Idol alum Phillip Phillips at Simon Estes Amphitheater.
Is that enough? No. Come on, people, ya gotta press through! Melissa Etheridge will bring her soulful self to Hoyt Sherman Place on Saturday night as well.
If the heat proves too much for the outdoor fun, An American in Paris wraps up its string of dates at Des Moines Performing Arts' Civic Center this weekend.
Have a fun one, take lots of pics, and we'll hope to see you out and about!
Angie has lived in the Des Moines area for 18 years. She enjoys walks with her dog along the river and around Principal Park, trying new bars and restaurants, and enjoying live music at any of Des Moines' venues... but especially at Simon Estes Amphitheater on a beautiful summer evening, where she will predictably and excitedly exclaim, "This is my favorite thing!"
